For French Chocolate Mousse
You will need
250grams50% Dark Chocolate (or up to 72% if you prefer)6 - 8 Eggs
What you do
Melt chocolate in a glass bowl. Call me a heathen but I do this in the microwave, on 40 sec increments on high. Stir until smooth.Separate Eggs
Add each yolk separately into the chocolate and mix well.
Beat egg whites with an electric beater until stiff snowy peaks form. Farm fresh eggs have the yellow-ist yolks and the most enormous whites, so with 8 eggs I ended up with enough pud for a dinner party of 12, when it was only my daughter and I at home.
Fold whites, a good dollop at a time with a metal spoon, into the chocolate mixture. Leave to set in the mixing bowl or decant into pretty tea cups or crystal glasses. Et voila a rich creamy dessert that believe it or not will be set in half an hour.
I laughed out loud over the safe not being big enough. Hilarious, Jane! Would you believe I bought so much chocolate last week it didn't fit in my hidey place? ha ha
ReplyDeleteChocolate - it's happy food, pure or otherwise. Though I wouldn't attempt the 12 egg mousse, I tried yesterday again! Will stick to 300grams choc/10 eggs if trying to feed 15.

ReplyDeleteAs you should be Stacey G!
ReplyDeleteHi! Thanks for the recipe. I love chocolate in everything except for chicken+chocolate. I'll do it in October. Now it's really hot and I can't think nor cook! Best regards from Barcelona,

Hi Marta, I was in Barcelona in Feb, but can't imagine how hot the summer is! Too hot for beating egg whites. I have some cool kiwi friends who've just moved to Barca, I will pass on your details. Jane
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely my favourite chocolate mousse and like you I like it unadulterated! I live in a weird house when 2 of the household like chocolate but not chocolate puddings or cakes etc. Very weird they are ... oh well, all the more for me!!
ReplyDeleteThis is simply dreamy! Love it! Thanks for linking up to #tastytuesdays. Hope to see you tomorrow!
